May 24, 2005 A Hide worksheet function for User Workbooks has been added to PerpetualWorkbook, v3.60. May 23, 2005 We've been doing Spring Cleaning, working on old annoying little problems with the code base and fixing things like making the program exit and load between the Windows application and Excel seamless. Our goal is to have Zero Defects. May 14, 2005 A final beta version of v3.60 PerpetualBudget is available off the web site. We plan to finalize v3.60 by June 1. QA bulletin: We have fixed a nagging bug that "snuck" into the code preventing the compacting of the database if you launched PB or PW in Excel. It also was impacting Team network operations. April 19, 2005 A beta version of v3.60 PerpetualBudget is available off the web site. This version implements variance management both integrated with the organization's P & L and available separately as an Excel report. January 28, 2005 A beta version of v3.50 PerpetualBudget is available off the web site. The Allocation Engine, Cash Flow and Balance Sheet documents have all been integrated with pbDesigner to produce all documents from customized outlines automatically. January 15, 2005 An alpha version of the v3.50 release of PerpetualBudget is available off the web site. The features of this release are described here. This release is a merge of detailed templating with summary templates, an advanced allocation engine and the completion of more integrated financial reports. December 31, 2004 The evaluation licenses in demo products timed out at year's end creating a situation where downloaded products exhibited "Demo Expired" status on installation. We apologize for this and it has been remedied. If this happened to you and you want your demo license extended please contact support (Support@spicer-baer.com) for an on-line extension. November 30, 2004 PerpetualBudget v3.40 Beta is available off the web site. This is a milestone release of PB featuring pbNOW. The worksheet restore engine has been extended to support creating all required worksheets dynamically on-the-fly, driven by a document-centric method controlled by pbDesigner. The Template Manager, now in it's second generation hosts all the interfaces required to construct an applied GL account strategy across the budgeting organization and then builds all worksheets using the pbNOW featureset. This release is stable and is expected to go final by 12/6/2004. August 27, 2004 We received a bug report from a new customer outlining an Outlook SendMail failure for user names which include "white-space" in the names. "White-space" is the use of a spacebar character between names. After confirming this bug, we have re-built all products. If you are using a recent version of either product, and your user names contain white space, you should download and overinstall the latest version of your product from the web site. August 20, 2004 PerpetualBudget v3.30 Beta is available off the web site. This release focuses on the Template Manager features of customizing budget base workbooks. Applications include adapting existing Excel budgets to the PerpetualBudget model, drill-down capabilities for any line item in the P & L structure, creating unique P & L templates on-the-fly from any GL structure and much more. For the technically inclined, the Template Manager will catalog all Named Ranges and link-dependent formulas, remove such attributes from templates and store the templates as "inert" formatted shells. Named Ranges and formulas are re-applied when templates are selected to join a base budget workbook. This allows the user to create complex budget workbooks without having to manage the PerpetualBudget complexities. July 5, 2004 PerpetualBudget v3.20 is released to the web site. March 26, 2004 We have updated our computers to be current with the latest Microsoft updates for Windows, including IE6. IE6 installs some files that affect the MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) baseline. We now require MDAC v2.5 or higher to be installed on any machine running PB or PW. The product installer may direct you to download/install it. This is the version that installs with Microsoft Office 2000. March 13, 2004 The final beta version of PerpetualWorkbook v3.10 has been posted to the web site. The two main features of this release are the seamless Outlook interface to handle remote users and roll back file versioning. It is functionally complete with the exception of rolling versions using the update data from the database. We have a lot of this feature implemented but would like to get feedback on the file versioning feature contained in v3.10 before releasing a data solution. Comments can be sent to support@spicer-baer.com. The expected release date for PW v3.10 is 3/31/2004. February 28, 2004 Tree handling and link handling bugs have been reported in v3.00. These have been fixed and a bug-fix build (v3.01) is on the web site. Download this package and overinstall v3.00; it installs a fresh evaluation license or preserves your retail license. All data is migrated. Contains new Outlook features. January 24, 2004 Take our survey on corporate file system methods. It's getting harder and harder to distribute files in the corporate world. What file distribution features do you need? January 22, 2004 PerpetualBudget v3.00 and PerpetualWorkbook v3.00 are released to the web site and available for purchase. December 30,2003 Effective today, we are requesting contact information from potential customers requesting PerpetualBudget downloads. This is to improve our evaluation support. Thank you for your cooperation. December 22, 2003 PerpetualWorkbook v3.00 Beta is on the web site today. December 8, 2003 PerpetualBudget v3.00 will release to
the web site January 5, 2004.
November 11, 2003 While we are preparing the v3.00 release of PerpetualBudget, we have suspended web sales of PerpetualBudget v2.40. There have been substantial database changes which require a fresh install of PerpetualBudget. The no-charge evaluation download for v3.00 is available and the 30-day evaluation period can be extended until the product is fully released for production sales. October 23, 2003 v3.00 PerpetualBudget Beta is on the web site. The Help documentation has not been updated yet. We expect to add the documentation by October/end. September 28, 2003 v2.50 PerpetualBudget Alpha goes on the web site this week. This release is a dramatic shift in the graphical control and presentation of the budget system. The treeview/listview paradigm of the new interface allows a rich flow of data between worksheets and the database. In addition, the increased database interaction with the system allows more levels of data input from Goals Setting at the highest level down to collaborative detailed department input utilizing the update features of PerpetualWorkbook technology. May 14, 2003 v2.20 PerpetualBudget is in production and will release to the web site the week of May 23. March 28, 2003 v2.10 PerpetualWorkbook is released to the web site. March 20, 2003 v2.10 PerpetualWorkbook (Beta) now supports the seamless merge of Global Address Lists or Contacts lists from Outlook to configure the PW Users Group. March 14, 2003 v2.10 PerpetualWorkbook (Beta) is on the web site. This is a maintenance update.(ftp://ftp.spicer-baer.com/PW210SYS.exe). March 13, 2003 v2.00 PerpetualBudget (Beta) has been refreshed on the web site. The budgeting functions have been working since January this year. Our current efforts are focused on "Budget Builder", a graphical and textual Interview process to develop new budgets. Today's build marks the first link-up between managing the budget build from the workbook controls or PB's Builder interface. This provides a seamless budget building interface from Excel or Windows.(ftp://ftp.spicer-baer.com/PB200SYS.exe). February, 2003 v2.00 PerpetualBudget (Beta) is on the web site. January, 2003 v2.00 PerpetualBudget (Alpha) is on the web site. August 14, 2002 v1.90 PerpetualWorkbook (Beta) is on the web site. The Synchronization feature has been polished and stress testing applied. This technique is effective for workbooks of any size and complexity. We project the version to go final by September 15, the same day we plan to upload PerpetualBudget v2.00 as a beta version. July 8, 2002 Version 1.90 Beta PerpetualWorkbook is on the web site. This version features Workbook Synchronization for top-down modifications and QA of master workbooks. A complete feature list will be prepared and sent in the monthly newsletter. June 8, 2002 Version 1.8 PerpetualWorkbook has been upgraded with a new feature, "Rebuild Workbook". This enables you to completely and automatically rebuild data populated workbooks. This is handy for adding/deleting rows or columns and making formula changes to the worksheet template. This is an important new feature of the upcoming PerpetualBudget products. April 19, 2002 Version 1.8 PerpetualWorkbook is released to the web site. This officially changes the product line name of PerpetualBudget to PerpetualWorkbook. Read the FAQ in Support to get instructions on switching your product type from PerpetualBudget to PerpetualWorkbook (it's easy!). March 27, 2002 Version 1.8 of both product lines (PerpetualBudget and PerpetualWorkbook) are available in beta test here. The functionality is generally the same as v1.70 with many bug fixes and system refinements in preparation for the production release of PerpetualWorkbook and the new bundled budgeting products of PerpetualBudget. March 16, 2002 On request we added the protected
worksheets processing to the Excel Add-In, PerpetualBudgetXL. There have
been several revisions to this code over the past two weeks while we smoothed
the wrinkles out of it. Currently the builds are at: You can download these versions here. March, 2002 New products, product name changes and
general information. We had set as a goal the end of January to begin
rolling out a series of spreadsheet budgeting products using PerpetualBudget
System as the underlying processing technology. These products are
underway but won't begin releasing until the end of the quarter. Thursday, February 28, 2002 The PerpetualBudget Staff is getting a short vacation with family starting March1 and returning March 5. All emails and support questions will be answered then. Monday, January 14, 2002 New builds of PB v1.61, PBXL v1.61 and PB SYS v1.61 are going up on the web site today. Thanks to some input from beta sites, we have cleaned up the add/del record code in the Configure screen. This screen is shared on all products and the behavior of adds and deletes is consistent. Later in the week, we will be adding the RC location of corrupted User file cells to the Error screen processing. This is in preparation to improve the handling of corrupted user files. Monday, January 7, 2002 Happy New Year from the PB Product Team! In preparation for the expansion of our product lines later this month, we are making a quality release of v1.61. In order to build multiple versions of the Windows product and the Excel Add-in, we have re-merged all binary modules and re-designed our build system to support OEM code production. The beneficiary of this consolidation is the Add-in product PerpetualBudgetXL which now shares most of the functions found in PerpetualBudget. In the course of consolidating the base code, we fixed many bugs and re-worked some of the screens. Beta versions of v1.61 can be found here. Saturday, December 8, 2001 All versions of PerpetualBudget v1.60 are released to the download page of the web site. These products run on Windows 95/98/NT2000 and Excel '97 and higher. See below for new features. Sunday, November 18, 2001 An annoying bug in PerpetualBudget v1.51 was reported today. If you right-mouse click on a worksheet in the BudgetExplorer, the program crashes! There isn't any functionality in this event but a crash is a crash! This has been fixed; the link to download a new install is at ftp://ftp.spicer-baer.com/PB160SYS.exe. Friday, November 16, 2001 We're starting to post new beta versions of PerpetualBudget v1.60 on the beta download page. The added feature list is:

Monday, August 6, 2001 (actual date = 08/13/01, had some issues!)
Thursday, August 2, 2001 A bug has been reported on PB v1.40 and PBXL v1.40 for International language versions of Windows that prevents the file from running in some cases. We found a hard-coded string associated with the test for existence of the file pbudget.dsn; the error reports that the file can't be found. This has been corrected and a new version will be available on the web site Monday, August 6, 2001 here. Monday, June 11, 2001
Friday, June 1, 2001 PerpetualBudget v1.40 Beta was unloaded to the web site today. The overinstall and database migration features work on installations v1.40 and above. For assistance in migrating your existing data to the new version, contact Support@spicer-baer.com. Thursday, May 24, 2001 Windows 2000 users have found a bug. If your operating system is not installed on the C drive, for instance, the program installs but fails to locate the database module. This has been corrected so that PerpetualBudget installs and run wherever the the operating system is installed. Tuesday, May 22, 2001 Budget_Name characters bug found. Non-alpha numeric characters used in the Budget Name are causing query errors in both PerpetualBudget v1.33 and PerpetualBudgetXL v1.30. A fix is underway for v1.40. Until then, don't use special characters like the apostrophe in the Budget Name; use aA-zZ, 0-9 and whitespace. The latest binaries are available for anonymous FTP download at ftp://ftp.spicer-baer.com (pbudget.exe, perpbxl.dll and the latest database module, pbmaster.mdb). Friday, May 18, 2001 PerpetualBudget v1.33 has a new build on the web site. We found a bug relating to updating multiple workbooks in a budget context. If each master workbook has multiple User files to update, the error involved the update engine attempting to open an already open workbook. This spawns a multitude of downstream errors which don't kill the application but acts pretty ugly! A new version has been uploaded to the web site. Thursday, May 17, 2001 We've just completed a major overhaul of the HELP system for PerpetualBudgetXL, including a tutorial on budget workbook construction and budgetsystem creation. You can download the file here; it is compatible with Microsoft HTML Help. Wednesday, May 2, 2001
